Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal has sought a loan of Rs 10,000 crore from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Leader of Opposition in the Bengal Assembly and BJP MLA from Nandigram Suvendu Adhikari has made this claim while tweeting. At the same time, union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been urged not to accept the Mamata Banerjee government's request, as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government is misusing the public exchequer. This amount will not be used for development, it will be misused.

Adhikari has also alleged that the Mamata Banerjee government has violated the borrowing limit under the FRBM Act in the past and West Bengal already has a debt of about Rs 6 lakh crore. BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari tweeted on Friday, "The West Bengal government has requested a loan from the RBI for an amount of Rs 10,000 crore. Unfortunately, West Bengal has already breached its borrowing limit under the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act. It is also worrisome that Bengal already has a debt of around Rs 6 lakh crore."

Suvendu Adhikari further wrote, "Although this amount has been sought for infrastructure development, it will be used for payment of employees' salaries and payments like Lakshmi Bhandar. Needless to say, there are many bogus employees in local bodies and most Laxmi Bhandar beneficiaries are not eligible to receive any grant."
