New Delhi: Criticizing the Congress based on revelations from senior leader Manish Tewari's new book, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accused the UPA government of being insensitive, useless, and neglectful of national security. Gaurav Bhatia, BJP national spokesperson, labeled the Congress-led UPA government as insensitive and claimed they showed a lack of concern for national security.

Bhatia directed questions to Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, seeking an explanation for not granting permission to the Indian Army to retaliate after the 26/11 attacks. He questioned why the army's request for permission to take action against Pakistan was denied by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Referring to recent airstrikes conducted by the Modi-led government, Bhatia accused the Congress of insulting NSG commandos who lost their lives during the attacks. He urged Congress to clarify the nature of their 'special bond' with Pakistan that influenced such decisions.

Responding to Tewari's book, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted that, like Salman Khurshid, another Congress leader was criticizing the UPA to sell his book. Malviya highlighted Tewari's criticism of the UPA for weakness post the 26/11 attacks and mentioned Air Chief Marshal Fali Major's statement that the IAF was ready to strike, but the UPA froze. The newly-appointed BJP national spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla, tweeted that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress consistently echoed the Pakistani line on various issues. Poonawalla urged the Congress to explain what or who prevented a robust response post 26/11, similar to the responses seen after Uri and Pulwama.

In his book, Tewari criticized the UPA government's inaction after the 26/11 attacks and advocated for a kinetic response against a state that showed no remorse for slaughtering innocent people. Tewari's book, '10 Flash Points; 20 Years – National Security Situations that Impacted India,' contends that restraint was perceived as weakness and calls for actions to speak louder than words in response to such incidents. The excerpts were released by Tewari on his Twitter account.
