You must have often seen garbage and waste around you. It's common to find trash wherever humans live on Earth. But have you ever thought about how much debris there is in space? How much trash do satellites leave behind after they malfunction? Today, we will tell you about the amount of debris in space and how it is cleaned up.

Many satellites are present in space. A common question arises: where do these satellites go after their mission ends? According to reports, about 6,500 successful rocket launches have taken place so far. Most countries have sent their own satellites into space. However, every satellite eventually malfunctions. When a satellite becomes inoperative, there are two options. The decision on what to do with a malfunctioning satellite depends on its distance from Earth. If the satellite is in a very high orbit, it requires a significant amount of fuel to bring it back to Earth. In such cases, scientists send it further into space.

Another option is to bring the satellite back to Earth. Most countries bring their malfunctioning satellites back to Earth to reduce space debris. Once a satellite is returned, it needs to be stored in a specific location. This designated place is called Point Nemo. The word 'Nemo' comes from Latin, meaning 'no one.' When a place is referred to as Point Nemo, it means that no one lives there. This point is the farthest place from any land, located in the middle of the ocean. It is considered the center of the ocean and is situated between South America, Australia, and New Zealand. Additionally, the Combined Force Space Component Command monitors human activities in space. They have created a list that includes various types of space junk.

To reduce space debris, treaties have been established. NASA prepared the Artemis Accords, which emphasize keeping space clean and peaceful. According to reports, 28 countries have signed these accords. However, major countries like Russia and China are not yet part of it. Additionally, private companies are not included in this treaty.
