Tamil Nadu: RN Ravi, the Governor of  Tamil Nadu today, March 9, sent back the bill to the state government meant to prohibit online gambling and the regulation of online games, passed by the Assembly on October 19, 2022.

After four months, the governor sent the bill back and requested further information from the state legislature.

On October 19, 2022, S Regupathy, the law minister for Tamil Nadu, introduced a Bill to the state house that would outlaw online gambling. The Bill was introduced in order to outlaw online poker and rummy sites.

In March, the Tamil Nadu government declared that they were dedicated to outlawing these internet platforms and that they were working to enact legislation to that effect.

On October 7, Governor Ravi signed into law legislation that forbids and governs online gambling in the state. Based on a report provided by a commission led by Judge Chandru and feedback from stakeholders, the government decided to outlaw online rummy games.

The law to prohibit internet gambling was approved by the Tamil Nadu Cabinet earlier in September.

The bill to criminalise online gambling was approved by the Council of Ministers, and after receiving the Governor's approval, the act was signed into law by Governor Ravi in October.

Two attempts have been made by the Tamil Nadu state government to enact legislation that would outlaw online gambling in the area. As a result, no provider of online games is permitted to provide online gambling services, permit the playing of any online game that involves the use of money or other risks, or allow the playing of any game that breaks the rules.
