SRI LANKA: Soon after official notification from Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa that he is stepping down from his post, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe called a Cabinet meeting with all of the ministers on Monday in the prime minister's office. The Prime Minister's media office issued a statement mentioning that "Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe conducted a session with the Cabinet Ministers this morning at the Prime Minister's Office."

"All the ministers who attended the meeting were of the opinion that they are ready to transfer their responsibilities to that Government as soon as there is an agreement to create an All-Party Government," it was noted. As the pressure from the protestors increased, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa officially told Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he is leaving his position.

The Prime Minister's media office announced that Rajapaksa had been informed that he would be quitting as previously stated, according to Colombo Gazette. The President will step down from his position on July 13 according to a press conference that Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena had earlier on Saturday.

Thousands of demonstrators surrounded the President's House in Fort on Saturday, leading to Rajapaksa's resignation. The stunning images were captured at the PM's official mansion, where people could be seen playing carrom board, dozing off on the sofa, enjoying the park, and preparing dinner. In the midst of the continuous protests, even Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe announced his resignation from his post. The demonstrators who have taken over the homes of the President and Prime Minister, however, have stated that they will remain there until they give up their positions.
