BANGALORE: Former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa clarified his retirement from electoral politics on Saturday, saying that despite his announcement, he will follow the party's diktat. "It is up to the party to give B.Y. Vijayedra (his son) the opportunity to run from the Shikaripura constituency (which he represents)," he said.

"There is a lot of uncertainty around my Friday statement at Shikaripura. I made those words in response to Shikaripura residents' pressure. The final decision, however, will be made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The top party leaders' decision is definite "Yediyurappa elaborated.

"I have made my recommendation. Vijayendra can also run from the ancient Mysuru region. He has the potential to win in any constituency in which he runs. In this regard, I will follow any party's decision. I shall obey the instructions of Prime Minister Modi and BJP Party President J.P. Nadda "He said.

Yediyurappa, a veteran BJP leader, announced his retirement from electoral politics on Friday. He has declared that he will not run in the upcoming assembly elections from Shikaripura, where he began his political career. He indicated that he is backtracking to allow his son B.Y. Vijayendra, who is currently the vice-president of the BJP, to run.

"I will not run in the next Shikaripura elections. Vijayendra will run in my stead. I am appealing to the public to secure his overwhelming victory," Yediyurappa said.
