New Delhi: In a major setback to India, their fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah had to be out of the T20 World Cup 2022 due to injury. It will now take about four to six months for him to recover from this injury. The BCCI issued a statement on Monday stating that Bumrah will not be able to play in the upcoming tournament. The BCCI has not yet made an official statement about who will be included in Team India in place of Bumrah.

But according to media reports, veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami is sure to join the T20 World Cup team in place of Bumrah. However, Shami has not played any T20 International match since the T20 World Cup last year. The report also states that Mohammed Siraj will be placed on the list of standby players for the T20 World Cup. Fast bowler Deepak Chahar has been brilliant in the two matches against South Africa, however, he was always a backup for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, so he will remain in the standby players.

A BCCI source has said, "The team management is clear about the backup. Chahar has been identified as Bhuvneshwar Kumar's backup. Bhuvneshwar is still the first choice. Shami was kept as the main bowler as Bumrah's cover. So, Shami is sure to join the main team. Mohammed Siraj is scheduled to tour Australia as a standby with the team.''
