Will Smith Teases Return to Social Media, drops First Non-Apology post since Oscars

Will Smith seems to be thinking about social media and cute animals. On Friday, the troubled actor posted on Instagram for the first time since the Oscars event on March 27 that he did not specifically mention the infamous incident in which he smacked Chris Rock onstage after the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

A brief video in Smith's latest tweet showed a juvenile gorilla repeatedly poking a larger gorilla in the behind, eliciting the larger gorilla's wrath. A message added to the video read, “Me trying to get back on social.” Cesar Millan, a former National Geographic star, was one of those who commented on the post, who wrote, “Animal kingdom is with you Will.” Additionally, Smith’s ex-wife, Sheree Zampino, responded with a heart emoji.

This comes exactly three weeks after Smith’s previous post, which was a video of him speaking directly to the camera to say, in part, that “there is no part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave at that moment.” He also apologized to Rock and the comedian’s family following the incident that led Smith to resign from the Academy, and for which he received a 10-year ban from the organization’s events.

The Men in Black actor's lone statement since the Oscars’ evening was a letter of apology to Rock the following day. Shortly after his argument with Rock over a joke about Jada's shaved head, Smith accepted the best actor Oscar for King Richard at the ceremony. In his victory speech, Smith apologised to the Academy but not to Rock.

Smith would frequently utilise social media before the Oscars to engage with followers and share amusing stories from his life.
