Guntur: Andhra Pradesh Liquor Release Publicity Committee chairman Vallamreddy Lakshmana Reddy on Thursday met Director General of Police Gautam Sawang at his office in Mangalagiri and submitted a memorandum. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the aim of the government is alcohol free society. The DGP assured that they will strengthen the Special Enforcement Bureau and check illegal transportation and sale of liquor, ganja. Will take steps to stop the consumption of alcohol in public places.

Lakshmana Reddy said the police department may install closed circuit cameras in rural areas to check consumption of alcohol in public places. He suggested giving uniforms to the women police working in village secretariats and entrusting them with the responsibility of stopping the consumption of alcohol in public places. He assured that they would take steps to stop the consumption of alcohol in public places as part of striving for an alcohol-free society.

Earlier, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting of the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) at his camp office on Thursday. He had directed the officials to pay special attention to the menace of drugs and to organize awareness programs against drugs in universities and colleges. The Chief Minister said that universities and colleges should continuously monitor drug abuse, and an action plan should be prepared for implementation across the state. He asked the officials to take strict action to stop the cultivation and transportation of Ganja (Gajna) by conducting regular raids. He ordered the officials to take strict action against those responsible for smuggling liquor.
