Winter Vacation 2023-24: Northern India has been blanketed in a cold wave due to fresh snowfall in the Himalayan mountains. This has prompted several state governments to announce winter vacations for schools in the region. States like Jammu, Rajasthan, Delhi, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana have issued directives regarding school closures.

Here's a breakdown of winter vacation dates in different states:

Jharkhand: The Jharkhand government has declared school holidays due to extreme cold conditions. Government and private schools in Jharkhand will be closed from December 26 to December 31, 2023. However, classes for Class 10 and 12 students might be conducted if necessary, considering the upcoming board exams.

Haryana: In response to the prevailing cold weather, the Haryana government has announced the closure of all government and private schools from January 1 to January 15. This decision applies to Haryana Board-affiliated as well as CBSE and ICSE-affiliated schools.

Rajasthan: The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has declared winter holidays in the state from December 25, 2023. The RBSE made the announcement via a post on social media, confirming the commencement of winter vacation from December 25.

Delhi: In the national capital, the Delhi government has shortened the winter vacation period. Originally set for 15 days, the vacation has been reduced to 6 days due to school closures in November caused by severe air pollution. The Delhi Education Department shared a circular specifying that the remaining part of the Winter Vacation for the Academic Session 2023-2024 will be observed from January 1, 2024, to January 6, 2024.

Jammu: Schools in Jammu will observe winter vacation from December 11, 2023, to February 29, 2024. According to the Jammu Education Board's directorate, class 8 schools will remain closed from December 11, 2023, to February 29, 2024. For students in classes 9 to 12, the vacation period will be from December 18, 2023, to February 29, 2024.
