Rough start for the host in the T20 tri-series, who suffer first defeats. Australian women's cricket team comfortably beat India by six wickets in the opening encounter of the T20 Tri-series, on Thursday. Australia women’s whitewash the host in ODI’s.

After winning the important toss elected to bat first, India scored a decent 152 runs for 5 wicket, riding on Smriti Mandhana's 41-ball-67 but the Southern Stars cruised to the target in 18.1 overs with opener Beth Mooney contributing 45 runs off 32 balls. Skipper Meg Lanning with an unbeaten 35 runs off 25 balls and Elyse Villani (39 of 33 balls) also contributed in their team's winning cause.

Australia women win by 6 wickets. Having suffered a 3-0 whitewash to the hands of the Aussies in the recently concluded ODI series, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side were looking for redemption in the opening T20I of the tri-series but were dealt with a bitter blow on Wednesday after Ekta Bisht had to be left out due to an injury to her index finger, with Rajeshwari Gayakwad being named as the replacement. At the match, India put 152/5 on board after being invited to bat first by Australia. The Aussies secure an easy 5-wicket win over India in the opening T20I of the series.
