Lucknow: Silverfish is worshiped in every nook and cranny in Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh. Silverfish are worshipped here on the special occasion of Diwali and Dhanteras. A large number of people buy silverfish, weighing 5 grams to 5 kg. According to Indian tradition, it is considered very auspicious to keep and worship silverfish on special festivals. In ancient times, traders preferred to see silver fish first in the morning. Diwali worship in Bundelkhand without fish is considered incomplete.
Silver is considered to be the most auspicious and soft metal in all religions. Just as Mars symbols contain cows, peacocks, elephants, lions and turtles. Similarly, these symbols include fish. Silverfish are also gifted to daughters and son-in-law at weddings, from puja plates. It is believed that this does not cause any trouble to the daughter-in-law. Silverfish is being made from several generations by a family in Moudah town of Hamirpur district. When India was ruled by the British, the elders of the family gifted the Victoria Princess a silverfish, in return for which the princess presented her with a medal because of the beauty of the fish. Because of this art, the family's name is also recorded in the book Ain-i-Akbari
Fish and silverfish are of great importance in Dhanteras and Deepawali in Sanatan Dharma. Pandit Ramesh, the chief priest of the Temple, says that fish is a symbol of prosperity and includes fish avatars in ten avatars. Looking at fish in the morning not only brings prosperity but also relieves all diseases. Therefore, the people of the Bundelkhand region give more importance to buying silverfish in Dhanteras and Deepawali.
