Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia won the 65 kg freestyle category gold medal in the ranking series competition here on Saturday, 18 January 2020. In the final, Poonia defeated Jordan Oliver of America 4-3. In this way, they started the year with golden success. In the first tournament, Vinesh Fougat gave gold in 53 weight category in women's category on Friday.

For your information, let us tell you that Bajrang had to sweat against America's Jane Ellen Rutherford in the first round, although he managed to win 5-4. In the quarter-finals, the Indian wrestler defeated Joseph Christopher Mc Cana of the US 4–2 and then finished 6-8 in the semi-final to Ukraine's Vasil Shupathar. World Championship silver medalist Deepak Poonia finished the campaign in 86 kg category. Deepak lost 1–11 to Ethan Adrian Ramo of Puerto Rico in the opening round. Ravi Kumar Dahiya is competing in 61 kg instead of 57 kg, he has won both rounds. He first defeated Alexandru Chirtoaka of Moldova and Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan.

Jitender missed the medal in the repechage: It is being said that Jitender defeated Dennis Pavlov of Ukraine 10–1 in the first round of 74kg but he lost 0–4 to Turkey's Soner Demiratas in the quarter-finals. He got a chance to play in repechages as Demiratas reached the final. But this Indian could not take advantage of this opportunity and was defeated 2–9 by Daniyar Kaysanov of Kazakhstan.
