CHENNAI: India Metrological Department's Regional climate control on Tuesday, January 31, issued a 'Yellow' alert for 11 districts of Tamil Nadu for the next 2 days.
Heavy rains are due to the depression prevailing over the southeast Bay of Bengal. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea for the next 2 days as strong winds are likely to blow, Metrological Centre issued a statement.
The weather department also forecasts light to moderate rains for coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and also in some areas of Karaikkal for the 2 two days.
In 11 districts of the state, there will be heavy rains followed by thunderstorms over the course of the next two days due to the weather system over the Bay of Bengal. Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Myladuthurai, Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Kanniyakumarai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, and Sivaganga are all likely to get rain, RMC scientist P. Senthamarai Kannan, briefing media persons, said.
Due to the depression that has formed over the sea, the weather service has already warned fishermen to return to the shores by Tuesday evening. The fishermen are warned not to go out into the sea till February 4 due to wind that is expected to blow between 40 and 50 kmph along the coast of Tamil Nadu and the Gulf of Mannar.
