Sanaa: As Yemen's years-long conflict continues to spread, a series of escalated airstrikes have targeted the Houthi militia in several places, according to a military official. "Scores of airstrikes launched by the Saudi-led coalition against Houthi-held targets in various regions of Yemen in the last several hours have hit many Houthi-held sites," the official added.
"As the Houthis created a new battlefront against the government forces stationed there, the coalition's aeroplanes attacked Marib and the neighbouring provinces heavily," he said, adding that the airstrikes killed and injured a huge number of Houthi rebels who were still attempting to move on Marib.
According to the official, despite international pleas for de-escalation, the combat waging between Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces and the Houthi militia expanded further in the war-torn Arab country. Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition announced in a brief press release that 35 airstrikes had been launched in the last 24 hours, largely in Marib and the neighbouring northeastern province of al-Jawf.
Despite a series of daily airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition against the militia, the Houthis recently increased their military operations against Marib and were able to seize substantial swaths of the province's southern parts.
