Varanasi: Three crores 13 lakh 98 thousand rupees have been sent to the bank accounts of 31,398 destitute affected by the lockdown in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi district. While giving information on Thursday, DM Kaushal Raj Sharma said that the closure of commercial and industrial activities in the lockdown has affected the employment of a lot of daily labourers, workers, agricultural labourers, shopkeepers, auto-rickshaw drivers and rickshaw drivers etc.

All such people are being surveyed through the Municipal Corporation in the municipal area and through the Block Development Officers in the rural areas, one thousand rupees per person is being added to their bank accounts through DVD. In the district, till date, three crores 13 lakh 98 thousand rupees have been transferred to the accounts of 31398 beneficiaries. He said that ration kits are being distributed to the poor and helpless people stuck in other states and districts in lockdown through Additional Municipal Magistrate in Municipal Corporation area and Deputy District Magistrate in rural areas. A total of 41,747 ration kits have been distributed in the district so far.

DM Sharma has informed that the distribution of ration kits to the needy is going on daily. Food items such as flour, rice, lentils, potatoes, mustard oil, turmeric, chilli and salt are being provided in ration pest. People staying in various shelters are also being provided with cooked food every day.
