President Ram Nath Kovind appointed  Banwari Lal Purohit as Tamil Nadu governor on Saturday. It is the first time that the state has got a full time governor after K Rosaiah retired in August 2016.

Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao had an additional charge of Tamil Nadu since Mr Rosaiah's retirement.

 President Ram Nath Kovind filled in vacancies in five other states. Retired Brig. B. D. Mishra is the new Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Satya Pal Malik is Governor of Bihar, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi is Governor of Assam, Ganga Prasad is the Governor of Meghalaya and retired Admiral DK Joshi takes over Andaman and Nicobar islands.

Vacancy arose in Bihar Raj Bhavan after its former occupant Mr Ram Nath Kovind was elected as President of India. His successor 71-year-old Mr Malik was Minister of state in 1990s and is a three term Parliamentarian.

Former Delhi MLA Prof Jagdish Mukhi was moved from Union Territory of Andaman amd Nicobar to Assam. He has been replaced by former Chief of Naval Staff Admiral DK Joshi.

Bihar politician Ganga Prasad will take over as Meghalaya Governor. Brigadier Brigadier B. D. Mishra (Retired) will handle Arunachal Pradesh. He has participated in all three major wars that India has fought - in 1962, 1965 and 1971.
