Indian has made its debut in film industry in 18th century with silent film titled Raja Harishchandra im 1913 which was produced and directed by Dadasaheb Phalke. It is considered as the first full-length Indian feature film.

The film had story of legendary Raja Harishchandra memorize from the time of Ramayana and Mahabharata. It is better considered as first Marathi film as its cast and staff were Marathi people.
