What is postpartum depression?  Postpartum depression is depression that may start during pregnancy or at any time up to a year after the birth of a child. This unfortunately, is a pretty hard process to get through. The process of recognizing, getting treated for, and recovering from postpartum depression can take months and months. There are six stages of postpartum that women go through before they feel like themselves again.

  • Denial

This is the very first feeling a woman feels. They feel that it is ok to feel like this, thinking motherhood is supposed to be like this and will vanish soon.

  • Anger

You tend to get mad at everyone and everything around you.You feel like no one is bothered or understands you. You even start getting angry at the baby.

  • Bargaining

May be I should pray, eat well or exercise, then I’ll be fine. I need to constantly work hard to get through with this, and then it will all go away

  • Depression

You feel like just running away to some isolated place where no one will find you. You don’t feel good about yourself and start thinking maybe I’m not a good mother or a wife. You start thinking that your family is better off without you.

  • Acceptance

You realize that all what is happening is not normal. You know you need help and getting that help is not a sign of weakness but that you care about your family and that’s best for you and for them.

  • PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

PTSD is not something you realize might happen after seeking help, but does occur in some situations. However, you might start to feel like you somehow hurt your child when they were a baby.
