New Delhi: Modi government at the Centre has revoked Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir following the order of President Ram Nath Kovind. On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the removal of 370 sections from Jammu and Kashmir in the Upper House. At the same time, Ladakh has now been separated from the J&K. Ladakh has been given the status of a Union Territory without assembly. A statement issued by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Upper House said that the local people were demanding for the status of a separate Union Territory to Ladakh. So that the people living here can achieve their goals. Ladakh is located between the Karakoram Mountains in the north and the Himalayan Mountains in the south. China and Tibet border are in north of Ladakh. Ladakh is surrounded by border areas which makes it important from a strategic point of view, The total population of Ladakh is around 3 lakh. The entire area of Ladakh is 33,554 Sq. Km. It includes one Lok Sabha seat and 4 Assembly seats. Now, after the government's decision, Ladakh will be a separate Union Territory and the Lieutenant Governor will rule there.
