Lucknow: There is a looming possibility of a significant rift within the Samajwadi Party ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with a notable number of its MLAs contemplating defection. According to sources, ten MLAs from Akhilesh Yadav's party are considering joining the BJP, while three MLAs are contemplating joining the Congress. This potential split is viewed as a substantial setback for Akhilesh Yadav, particularly concerning the voting dynamics for the Rajya Sabha elections.
Reportedly, over half of the current SP MLAs, including Indrajit Saroj, are in communication with the BJP. These MLAs could potentially cross-vote against the SP if required during the Rajya Sabha elections. Additionally, sources suggest that three MLAs, including Amitabh Vajpayee, are considering aligning with the Congress. As these MLAs are eyeing participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, they are currently in a holding pattern awaiting decisions from other parties.
Recently, several leaders close to Akhilesh Yadav have delivered surprising blows to the party. SP MLA and Apna Dal Kamerawadi leader Pallavi Patel has already declared her refusal to support her party's candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections, citing concerns over the party's strategy. This rebellion within the SP ranks gained momentum following the nomination of candidates for the Rajya Sabha seats. Notably, SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from the position of party general secretary in protest against the nomination choices. The Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh will see contests for 10 seats, with BJP fielding eight candidates and SP nominating three candidates, including Jaya Bachchan, Alok Ranjan, and Ramji Suman.
