Gujarat closed 103 roads due to heavy rains, devastation to continue for next 4 days

Ahmedabad: Heavy rains in many parts of Gujarat have disrupted normal life. Several parts of Gujarat including Saurashtra, Kutch and the southern part of the state received heavy rain on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the western state of the country will continue to receive rain for the next four days.

State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) officials said 103 roads including two government highways have been blocked in different parts of the state due to waterlogging and damage to roads following heavy rains. According to the forecast released by the Meteorological Department on Thursday, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in south Gujarat and Saurashtra region, especially Jamnagar, Devbhoomi-Dwarka, Amreli and Bhavnagar districts for the next four days.

According to a release issued by SEOC, heavy rain has lashed parts of Jamnagar, Kutch, Navsari, Surat and Valsad districts on Thursday. Jodiya Taluka of Jamnagar district recorded the highest rainfall of 188 mm between 6 am and 4 pm on Thursday. According to statistics, Nakshthana in Kutch recorded 93 mm rainfall, Navsari's Gandevi 81 mm, Chikhli 77 mm, Surat's Umerpara 73 mm, Valsad's Kaparda 69 mm and Kutch's Anjar recorded 66 mm rain.
