For the past decade, 117 Pakistani migrants living in Jodhpur, Rajasthan have been trying to get citizenship of India. In the presence of Union Home Ministry and State Government officials, Jodhpur District Collector Ravi Kumar Surpur handed over a certificate of Indian citizenship to 117 Pakistani displaced persons.  In order to provide Indian citizenship to Pakistani migrants, the program was organized on Sunday in Jodhpur's Town Hall.

After many years, as soon as the certificates were received to the displaced people who were waiting for citizenship, their eyes had the tears of joy. Those who received Indian citizens also cited slogans of Bharat Mata ki Jai.  District collector Ravi Kumar Surpur and Chairman of Seemant Lok Sangathan, President Hindu Singh Sodha told that these people will now get the benefit of government schemes. So far the children of the displaced people did not get admission in the government school and neither got the government ration card.

It is notable that in Jodhpur, Indian citizenship was provided to 2.55 thousand displaced persons in the year 2005. After this, 233 people got citizenship in the last one-and-a-half years. In order to get first Indian citizenship, Pak immigrants had to wait many years for citizenship even after completing formalities, but the process of citizenship has been simplified on the initiative of the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh about three months ago.

People who got Indian citizenship in the camp, Pritam Das, Jogiram and Tikaram said that sisters and daughters in Pakistan are not safe. There was repeated pressure to change religion again and again. Jogiram, who came to Pakistan from Jodhpur in 2009, told that the children could not get the education also.
