16553 new cases of Covid-19 are reported in Vietnam

According to Vietnam's Ministry of Health, there were 16,553 new COVID-19 cases registered on Saturday, including 16,513 locally transmitted and 40 imported cases.

On Saturday, the Vietnamese capital Hanoi continued to have the most infections, with 2,791 cases, followed by central Khanh Hoa province (798 cases) and northern Hai Phong city (748 cases). The infections brought the overall number of infections in the country to 1,876,394, with 34,117 fatalities. So far, 1,488,038 COVID-19 patients have recovered across the country, up 8,990 from Friday.

According to the ministry, 159.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccination have been provided, including 70.8 million second doses and 10.2 million third shots. Vietnam has had four coronavirus waves, each with increasing severity, complication, and infectivity. Since the start of the current wave in late April last year, the country has reported approximately 1.87 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, according to the ministry.
