Recalling the 1983 World Cup victory, former India captain Kapil Dev said on Friday that the team wanted to prove that they could play ODI cricket. "We were enjoying ourselves and we had a goal and we wanted to prove that we can play ODI cricket," Kapil Dev told the media. The pre-World Cup journey was also important as we started playing good ODI cricket. "As the tournament progressed, our confidence grew and we finally won on June 25," he said. Explaining how the Indian cricket team has developed in the last few years, the former captain said, "The administration is better, there are good facilities, so the game will improve. Today we can have everything that a team should have. Also, changes come over time and it doesn't happen in a day.''

"There was a time when we wondered if we would be able to qualify and now we think about winning, that's the difference," he said. New Zealand beat India on Wednesday to win the first ICC World Test Championship.
