New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday refused bail to former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar, who is serving a jail term in 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases, saying that according to medical records, the criminal's condition is stable and improving.

In fact, Sajjan Kumar's lawyer had argued that the former MP should be allowed to undergo treatment at his own expense in a private hospital. On this, the Supreme Court said that he cannot be treated as a 'super VIP patient.' A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and MM Sundaresh told the counsel defending Kumar, "You think he is the only patient in the country to be treated. He is one of the patients.''

The bench said Kumar is an accused in the "heinous crime." The court said, 'You want him to be treated like a type of super VIP patient.' At the beginning of the hearing, Kumar's lawyer cited medical records and said doctors at a government hospital here examined him and reports say his health is improving and he needs care for a few more days in the hospital.
