Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader and well-known kalyan businessman Sanjay Gaikwad, who recently bought a Rolls Royce car worth Rs 8 crore in Maharashtra, was booked for power theft worth Rs 35,000. However, the leader has immediately paid the entire bill after the FIR was lodged.

It may be mentioned that a complaint was lodged against Sanjay Gaikwad at Kolsewadi police station in Kalyan on the complaint of officials of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). According to sources, MSEDCL officials came to know about the power theft being committed by Gaikwad at the construction site at Kalyan East Kolsewadi in March. When Gaikwad did not pay the bill with the fine amount even after 3 months, the MSEDCL officials lodged a police complaint against him on June 30, 2021 for theft of electricity.

According to media reports, a statement issued by the company said on Monday that on July 12, Gaikwad paid Rs 49,840, out of which Rs 34,840 was stolen and Rs 15,000 was given as 'settlement' amount. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena official claimed that all the allegations levelled against him by the MSEDCL are baseless. Gaikwad says he pays tax worth crores of rupees to the government. A case like power theft has been registered against them in a hurry.
