UJJAIN: Four persons, including a minor, were arrested in Ujjain on Tuesday with fake currency notes of Rs 2000 denominations having face value of over Rs 8 lakh, police said.

The arrested persons were identified as Shubham Rathore, 19, his minor accomplice, Suraj Namdev and Uday Jain. Search for three more accused involved in the case is on.

Police informed that the accused used scanners to print the fake currency notes with different serial numbers. The fake currency bore close resemblance to the new Rs 2000 notes.

Sources informed that police began investigation after they found burnt fake currency notes of Rs 2000 in an isolated area of the city.

All the currency notes bore same serial numbers, indicating that the perpetrators tried to destroy the consignment. Later, it was revealed that the accused had initially scanned and prepared fake currency notes with face value of around Rs 2 lakh. But they forgot to change the serial numbers on the fake currency and tried to destroy it by burning the consignment.

During course of investigation, police has received information about some people were trying to circulate the fake currency at a petrol pump in Dharambadla area on Barnagar road following which a trap was laid. The police caught one Shubham Rathore, 19, and his minor accomplice trying to pay for fuel with a fake Rs 2000 note. Another note was found in their possession.

During interrogation, they led to one Suraj Namdev of Piplinaka area, who confessed having prepared the fake notes using computer photo editing of scanned currency with his friends Uday Jain, Lalit Tiwari, Mayank Mod and Kamlesh Rathore. Police later arrested Uday Jain, while the rest were yet to be caught.

Police recovered a printer, a scanner, monitor, CPU, keyboards, paper used to prepare fake currency notes and cutters from those arrested.
