5.5 magnitude Earthquake hits South Sandwich Islands

According to the US Geological Survey (UGS), an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 struck the South Sandwich Islands region on Sunday. At 05:26 a.m., the area was shaken by an earthquake (UTC). According to the USGS, the quake was 42.5 kilometres deep.

The US Geological Survey tweeted, "Prelim M5.5 Earthquake South Sandwich Islands area Sep-05 05:26 UTC."

The British Overseas Territory of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (SGSSI) is located in the southern Atlantic Ocean.
