New Delhi: 'Operation Ganga' is being run by the Government of India to bring back Indian citizens trapped in the war-torn country Ukraine. Amidst the deteriorating situation in Ukraine, the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Civil Aviation has been trying to expedite the evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine for the past several days.

The Civil Aviation Ministry said on Thursday that 6200 students have been rescued so far under the special operation that started from February 21, out of which 2185 students have been brought to India through special aircraft today. It has been informed by the ministry that in the coming two days, more than 7,400 Indians are likely to be brought back from neighboring countries of Ukraine by special flights.

Indian carriers Air India Express, Air India, SpiceJet, Indigo, Vistara and GoFirst are likely to operate a total of 17 flights on Friday, the ministry said in a statement. India is evacuating its citizens from the war-torn country's neighbors such as Romania, Hungary and Poland by special planes due to the closure of its airspace in Ukraine since February 24 due to a military attack by Russia.
