Scientists research on Leaoprord, number of leopards reduced in the country

Bangalore: Recently, scientists have found that the number of leopards in India has fallen by 75 to 90 percent. The report suggested that leopards need to be protected like tiger conservation in the country, otherwise it will be eradicated gradually. This study has been done by Center for Wildlife Study (CWS) India and Wildlife Institute of India.

It is also being said that scientists have collected genetic data of leopards all over the Indian subcontinent and the declining patterns and population structure of their population is being studied. This study has been completed by Supriya Bhatt, Suvankar Biswas, Dr. Bikas Pandav, Dr. Samrat Mandal, Dr. Kirti K. Karanth. At the same time, the researchers collected fecal samples and identified 13 unique samples using 13 microsatellite marker panels and all the data were matched to the 143 leopard samples already present. Its study revealed their population to be low.

For your information, let us tell you that Kirti K. Karanth, Chief Conservation Scientist, CWS, Bangalore said, The results of our study are both interesting and worrying. Using two different methods, we found that the population of a most adaptive animal is decreasing. He said that to save leopards, their protection like tigers is also necessary.
