In Uttarakhand, 8 people have been reported killed so far in avalanches that have come close to the China border in Joshmitha. So far, 384 people buried in heavy snow have been rescued in the army operation. The condition of 6 of the rescued persons is said to be very serious. Most of these people include BRO jawans and labourers. Rescue and relief operations were going on till the time of writing the news.

GEEF camps hit by snowstorm: Three camps of Border Road Organisation (BRO) and GREF i.e. General Reserve Engineering Force were hit by a blizzard in Sumana area near Joshimath on Friday. One of them was a campsite for BRO, while two were labor camps. Due to rain and snowfall in Joshimath area for the past few days, a glacier collapsed in the very high altitude area and fell on these camps. According to reports, Joshimath-Sumana-malaria was constructing a road BRO on access. It was for this construction work that the jawans and labourers of the BRO were present here.

The Indian Army issued a statement saying that there is an army camp about 3 kilometres from the spot. As soon as the army was informed of the impact of the bro camp's avalanche, a response operation was launched. 291 labourers have been rescued safely in the late-night operation. All of them are also being sent to army camps and provided with necessary medical services. The response operation was stopped till morning due to bad weather. The army once again launched a rescue operation in the early hours of Saturday and 93 other workers have been rescued from heavy snow. Meanwhile, the army also recovered the bodies of eight persons in a response operation. There is no residential area near the spot.
