Bhopal: The Energy Department has now taken a tough stance to recover the outstanding amount of electricity bills from government departments. The Energy Department collects the amount of the outstanding electricity bill from the general public, but it takes a lot of effort to recover the amount from the government departments. The Department of Energy has adopted strict action to recover the electricity bill due on the railways.

State Energy Minister Priyabrat Singh on Monday has issued instructions to take action as per rules to recover the pending electricity bill dues in other institutions including Indian Railways. Energy Minister Priyavrat Singh has also asked the officials to submit a petition to the Electricity Regulatory Commission for the recovery of the pending amount on the Indian Railways. 882 crores left for cross subsidy and additional surcharge on railways.

Similarly, there is an outstanding amount of about 188 crores on the other 7 consumers receiving electricity through open access. Adjournment has been taken by consumers. Energy Minister Priyavrat Singh has also instructed the officials to apply for an early hearing in the pending cases in the courts. The financial condition of the 3 power distribution companies under the Madhya Pradesh Energy Department is not right. The Department of Energy is constantly trying to recover these companies from losses.
