The Supreme Court on Monday granted relief to ex- Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur and exempted his personal appearance in the court till the next date of hearing in contempt proceedings case.

He was accompanied by few of his personal helpers and acolytes holding a pile of files. Having been advised to appear in person for the perjury case, which he has been facing for lying to the Apex court over his remarks in the International Cricket Council, this was Thakur's first instance to witness the court hearing in the BCCI matter.

Thakur said he had never intended to file any false information before the apex court and filed an affidavit explaining the circumstances under which the statements made by him led to the initiation of contempt proceedings.

The Supreme Court has fixed 17 April as the next date of hearing on the matter.
However, senior counsel Parag Tripathi, representing the apex court-appointed Committee of Administrators, opposed the plea and said such a meeting can be allowed only when the state associations gave an undertaking in accordance with the court's direction that they would comply with the recommendations of Justice RM Lodha panel.
