There has been a debate over the changing the name of the historic Ramlila Maidan in the name of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. First of all, Mayor of Northern Delhi Municipal Corporation, Gupta told that Atalji addressed many public meetings at Ramlila Maidan. Therefore, in his memory, Ramlila Maidan has now been decided to be named the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ramlila Maidan. The proposal was presented on Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has stood against it. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has tweeted himself. Kejriwal has written in his tweet. The vote will not be given by changing the name of Ramlila Maidan to the name of Atalji, BJP should change the name of Prime Minister then maybe you get some votes.
4-5 members of Northern MCD have proposed to keep the name of Ramlila Maidan named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Proposals will be discussed in the Northern MCD on August 30. According to the information, to change the name of Ramlila Maidan, the proposal will go to the Naming Committee of the respective Northern MCD. In this nominating committee, six members, including the leader of the mayor and the opposition, will discuss the matter. The MCD commissioner will ask the proposers for the reasons, after which the committee will decide on the name change after discussing the report of the commissioner.
After the assembly elections in four states at the end of the year, there is a continuation of changing the names of different places in the Bharat Janata Party-ruled states. In the current case, the name of the new capital of Chhattisgarh has been changed to 'Atal Nagar'. On 21st August, the Chief Minister Raman Singh said while declaring that now the identity of the new Raipur will now be in the form of Atal Nagar. It is believed that he has done this to pay homage to former late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
It is noteworthy that earlier, after the name of the Mughalsarai railway station in Uttar Pradesh, after the name of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay station, the name of a village of Rajasthan was changed. On 7th August, Bani village of Mian in Barmer district was renamed as Mahesh Nagar.
