Ranchi: A special court will on Wednesday utter the quantum of sentence for locked up ex- Bihar Chief Minister and RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad and 15 others convicted.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court had on December 23 found guilty the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) person-in-charge Lalu and 15 others in a case connecting to the multi-million-rupee fodder scam.

Lalu Prasad's lawyer on Tuesday addressed reporters that they would bear down on minimum sentences in the case.

“Lalu is 70 years old and suffering from many diseases. We will seek minimum punishment for him,” RJD Chief’s Lawyer said.

As per the lawyer’s consideration, Lalu Prasad can be pronounced three to seven years' punishment. If he gets three years' sentence, he would get a hold of bail soon after punishment.

The CBI court had found not guilty another ex- Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra and five others in the case, linking to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 84.5 lakh from the Deoghar district treasury between 1990 and 1994. Lalu Prasad was the Chief Minister of then whole Bihar from 1990 to 1997.

There were 34 offenders in the case, out of which 11 died during the trial, while one turned CBI approver and confessed to the crime. The 16 found guilty people comprise three former IAS officials Phoolchand Mandal, Beck Julius, and Mahesh Prasad.
