Previous Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene has been selected head coach of the Mumbai Indians franchise. Jayawardene will replace previous Australia captain Ricky Ponting, whose two-year contract in the part will lapse soon. Jayawardene's appointment is purportedly for over one year, yet the franchise did not uncover the points of interest.

Jayawardene, 39, had beforehand played for other IPL franchises Kings XI Punjab, Kochi Tuskers, and Delhi Daredevils.
