The Military of Maldives entered the Parliament on Wednesday and threw out all the Members of Parliament.

“Parliament under military siege in #Maldives parliament today members were thrown out of the parliament building compound,” Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) posted on its Twitter account.

Confirming the statement of Chief Justice, the MDP Secretary General Anas Abdul Sattar tweeted, “Security Forces literally throws an MP out of the Majlis premises! The Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed was telling the truth when he said he was forcefully dragged on the floor from his chambers.”

The military also restricted MPs from entering the Parliament on Tuesday. This is a week after the Maldives was declared in a state of Emergency. Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen refused to meet diplomats from European Union, Germany and United Kingdom on Saturday.

President Yameen has given powers to the forces and the forces are rounding up opposition leaders and being put up in prison. Despite Maldivian Supreme Court’s order to free 9 leaders from prison, the military continues to work under the directions of President Yameen.

The United Nations General Secretary Antonio Guterres has also urged the Maldivian government to withdraw the emergency and put back proper law and order in the country.
