Helsinki [Finland], Jul 17 (NT): United States President Donald Trump is facing severe criticism for his statements during a recent joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.

Now he has claimed that he has "great confidence" in his populace from the intelligence fraternity.

Trump took Twitter and insisted, "As I said today and many times before, "I have GREAT confidence in MY intelligence people." However, I also recognize that in order to build a brighter future, we cannot exclusively focus on the past - as the world's two largest nuclear powers, we must get along!," Trump tweeted.

The tweet came to backpedal on what Donald Trump had asserted hours earlier in the Press Meet with Putin.

The US President, during the press conference, had stated that he believed president Putin over the American intelligence community and his own appointees. He attacked the probe from special counsel Robert Mueller that recently led to the condemnation of 12 Russian intelligence officers for crimes concerned to the 2016 election.

President Trump is apparently justifying his talks with Putin in a series of tweets.

"I would rather take a political risk in pursuit of peace, than to risk peace in pursuit of politics," Trump wrote in a twitter.

In his next tweet, Trump wrote, "A productive dialogue is not only good for the United States and good for Russia, but it is good for the world."

Worth mention here earlier, Trump had received massive counterattacks over his remarks during the summit with Putin. On this issue former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel also criticized Trump and said  "failed America today."
