New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a contempt notice on Wednesday to break the lock of the house sealed by East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) in Gokulpur, against Delhi BJP President Manoj Tiwari. After taking cognizance of the report by the Supreme Court, the monitoring committee has directed Tiwari to appear before the court on September 25 and asked Delhi BJP chief to explain his stand in connection with breaking seal of a locked house in an unauthorised colony when he visited Gokalpur area on September 16.

The Supreme Court bench comprises Justice Madan B Lokur, S. Abdul Nazir and Deepak Gupta said: “It’s important that elected members should not defy the order of this court." The Court asks him as to why the process of contempt of court should not be initiated against him for allegedly violating the Supreme Court's order with respect to sealing.

Delhi Police filed a case against Tiwari after the EDMC complained, in which the MP of Uttar Pradesh had broken the lock of a dairy sealed by the municipal corporation on Sunday, citing news reports, which had previously been run illegally. has directed BJP MP Manoj Tiwari to appear in the court on September 25. The bench said that it is 'unfortunate' that the elected representatives contempt of court decision.

Delhi Police has registered a case against Manoj Tiwari under Section 188, DMC Act 461 and 465 of IPC and now the notice has also been issued to him from the court.
