The mother of a girl from Kerala who purportedly converted to Islam, got married to a Muslim and is now alleged to be in the Islamic State-controlled Khorasan territory of Afghanistan has moved the Supreme Court, seeking an “all-embracing investigation” into the trend of ‘love jihad’ in the southern State.
Bindu Sampath, whose daughter Fatima assumed name Nimisha is believed to have run away to Afghanistan when she was seven months pregnant to join the jihad of the IS, wants to be impeded in the Hadiya case.
Sampath said the case of Hadiya, which concerns that of a 24-year-old girl who converted and consequently married a Muslim, is that of propaganda and converting susceptible girls from other religious communities into “radicalized jihadis.”
“The situation in Kerala seems to be harsh — the most number of people united with IS from India are so far from Kerala,” Sampath alleged.
However, the Kerala government has filed an affidavit disagree with any need for an NIA inquiry.
Her application for impalement was mentioned by her advocate Aishwarya Bhati before a Bench led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra. The court allowed Bhati to file the application.
She described herself as a “miserable mother… who has not been able to get any assistance or relief in her battle to make safe the well-being of her daughter.”
