Coimbatore: The Sulur police in Coimbatore district on Thursday night arrested a woman for trying to murder her husband. The woman told that her husband had an extramarital affair with a woman and used to spend all the money on her. So, he gave money to the hired goons to eliminate him.

Velayutha Murthy, a resident of Virudhunagar district, used to visit Subramaniam's house frequently to collect loans. Subramaniam developed extramarital affairs with the woman and often gave her money. Subramaniam maintained his relationship with another woman despite his wife's wish. Hence, Tilagavati decided to eliminate her husband. He approached Velayutha Murthy who demanded Rs 50,000 for Subramaniam's murder.

On the night of September 3, Subramaniam went to an eatery on the Thennampalayam-Annoor road to buy food. A three-member gang came to the hotel and beat him up with a sickle. He suffered serious injuries and fell unconscious on the spot. The gang members thought that Subramaniam was dead. They fled from the scene of the incident. Sulur police reached the spot and sent Subramaniam to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). Police arrested Tilagavati, 48, wife of Subramaniam of Moolai Veetu Thottam in East Arasur near Sulur, R Velayutha Murthy, 28, and G Kamalkumar, 21, of Sivaganga district, and V Prabhakaran, 19, from Avaniapuram in Madurai.
