New Delhi: A protest erupted at the ITO foot over bridge in the national capital, led by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers, denouncing the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the excise policy case. Despite the arrest, Kejriwal has not resigned from his position, prompting widespread demonstrations from AAP supporters.

During the protest, party workers were seen chanting slogans in support of AAP and Arvind Kejriwal, holding posters adorned with Kejriwal's image with captions such as 'jail ka jawab vote se'. However, their demand to increase the number of legal meetings for Kejriwal, from two to five times a week, was dismissed by a Delhi court on April 10. The court cited adherence to the Jail Manual, which permits only one legal meeting per week, with exceptions for two meetings in special circumstances.

Special Counsel Zoheb Hossain, representing the respondent authorities, argued against Kejriwal's plea, emphasizing that granting five legal meetings per week would violate the Jail Manual's provisions. The court upheld this argument, asserting that even if an individual chooses to govern from jail, they cannot be granted exceptional treatment. Consequently, Arvind Kejriwal remains in judicial custody until April 15, with the ED alleging that AAP is the primary beneficiary of the proceeds of crime from the alleged liquor scam.
