New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has withdrawn its petition filed in the apex court to postpone the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections. In fact, the AAP had questioned the state election commission's hasty decision to postpone the MCD elections in the petition. The AAP had said that the Election Commission postponed the elections only on the basis of unofficial communication from the Center.

On behalf of the AAP, the CJI bench was told that now the dates of the MCD elections have been announced, so this petition has become ineffective. After this, the CJI said that we allow the withdrawal of the petition. Let me tell you that a petition was filed in the apex court in March 2022 on behalf of the AAP regarding the MCD elections. The AAP had requested that the MCD elections be held on time. Actually, the Election Commission had postponed the announcement of MCD election dates in the past. The central government's letter was cited as the reason behind this. It was said that the central government wants to integrate the three MCDs. After that, the Center merged the three corporations of Delhi and merged them together.

In the Supreme Court, the AAP has said that the elections should be held on time and the schedule of the elections should not be postponed due to talks with the Center. The AAP said that the informal talks held by the central government on the possibility of uniting the three MCDs should not have an impact on the election schedule.
