Indian spin star Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved a new success in his cricketing career. He has become the second Indian to take the most 435 wickets in Tests. Ashwin has broken the record of 1983 World Cup winner legend Kapil Dev. Fast bowling all-rounder Kapil Dev took 434 wickets. However, Ashwin is still behind former leg-spinner Anil Kumble. Kumble took 619 wickets in his career. He is also the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the world. Former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is at the top with the highest number of 800 wickets in the world.

Ashwin achieved this historic feat in the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka. In fact, the Indian team is playing the first match of the two-Test series against Sri Lanka at home these days. In his first innings, Ashwin took 2 wickets for 49 runs. Then, taking the third wicket in the second innings, he has surpassed Kapil Dev. In the same match, Ashwin has also surpassed New Zealand Richard Hadlee and Sri Lanka's Rangana Herath. Ashwin now has a target to overtake former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn. Steyn has taken 439 wickets so far. If Ashwin overtakes Steyn, he will be the highest wicket-taker in the 400-wicket line. He will be named after West Indies' Courtney Walsh, who took 519 wickets, the same Ravichandran Ashwin has achieved in only his 85th Test match.
