New Delhi: After the order of the Supreme Court, the Railways has started a campaign to take away the slums built around the track. Right now depending on the availability of epidemic and RPF, the speed of the campaign will depend on the time to come. Railway says that slum dwellers who have been occupying railway land for years will also be given a public notice informing them about the order of the top court.

The Supreme Court had ordered in this regard on Wednesday. The top court has ordered the removal of around 48,000 slums around 140 km of railway tracks in New Delhi within three months. Along with this, the Supreme Court has said that no court should give any stay on the removal of slums. The apex court has said in its order that if a court issues an interim order regarding encroachment around the railway line, it will not apply.

The Supreme Court has passed this order in the MC Mehta case in which the apex court has been issuing orders from time to time on matters related to pollution in and around Delhi since 1985. In fact, the railways had said in the apex court that there is the encroachment of slum dwellers along the 140 km long railway line in Delhi-NCR, with 70 km line it is quite high, where there are about 48000 slums.
