New Delhi: Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine that has been going on for more than 3 months, a situation of unprecedented food crisis has arisen all over the world. Because of this, many countries are imposing restrictions on exports to maintain adequate availability of food items in the domestic market. India has already become a part of this list by stopping the export of wheat and sugar. Now the Modi government is preparing to impose restrictions on the export of rice as well.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) is carrying out assessments on a product-by-product basis to control the prices of food items in the domestic market. Sources say that preparations are on to impose restrictions on the export of five essential products. Restrictions have been imposed on the export of two of these products, wheat and sugar. Non-basmati rice is also included in the products whose exports are planned to be banned in the coming times. Sources say that in the case of non-basmati rice, similar restrictions may be imposed as in the case of sugar.

The media report quoted a source related to the matter as saying, 'Inflation is being handled at a high level. The price monitoring committee is meeting on each product and considering the action to be taken. Another source said that rice can also be banned like sugar. In the case of sugar, the government has imposed a cap of 2 million tonnes on exports.
