The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has postponed several national-level competitions to be held this month due to rising data on coronavirus cases in the country and restrictions imposed by various States. The AICF issued a press release on Monday informing about the same. According to a press release by the AICF, the competitions which have also been decided to be completely postponed include the National Junior, Sub-Junior and National School Championships. Whose new programme will be announced later.

AICF Secretary Bharat Singh Chauhan said in a release, "Keeping in view the new wave of epidemics with a different disposition and restrictions imposed by various States, AICF has decided to postpone the National Championships to be held in January 2022 (National Junior, National School and National Sub-Junior).''

The National Junior Championship (U-20) was scheduled to be held in New Delhi from January 9, while other competitions were held after the month. The release said that the players have the option of a refund of the amount paid as an admission fee or are going to maintain their registration for holding the championship slots on later dates.
