New Delhi: Due to the growing pollution levels, all public and private schools in Delhi's National Capital Region (NCR) have been closed. The Delhi government has closed the primary schools in the capital city until further notice. As a result of rising pollution in the National Capital Region, schools in Noida and Greater Noida were advised to hold courses online for children up to Class 8 until November 8.

As the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in the NCR have dropped and parts of the district adjacent to Delhi are covered in thick smog, the Commission on Air Quality Management (CAQM) has also requested that the governments of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana take action regarding the closure of schools and colleges in their respective states.

DELHI:  Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, declared on Friday that all elementary schools in the nation's capital would close as of Saturday, November 5, due to the deteriorating air levels. The Chief Minister said during a press conference that the government is making every effort to control the pollution problem. Beginning tomorrow, all elementary schools in Delhi will be cancelled. All outdoor activities for levels higher than Class 5 will also be cancelled. In addition, when the AQI levels deteriorate, the government has urged 50% of federal workers to work from home.

UTTAR PRADESH: Dharmveer Singh, the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) for Gautam Buddh Nagar, requested on November 3 that all schools in the Noida, Greater Noida city hold courses online for kids up to Class 8 until November 8 due to the worsening AIQ level in the area. Also, the DIOS has instructed schools to hold as many lessons for students in Grades 9 through 12 online as possible. In Gautam Buddh Nagar, there are roughly 1,800 schools, including higher education facilities, dispersed throughout Noida and Greater Noida.

HARYANA:  Given that the AQI readings in Gurgaon and Faridabad have also risen to dangerous levels, the Haryana government is likely to make a decision regarding school closure soon. The government's official declaration is still pending, though. Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister, reportedly said that the government would make a decision soon.
