Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclone this week. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert about the cyclone. According to the IMD, the low-pressure area over the southeast and east may be effective in the next 48 hours. After this, it will move towards the west. By the morning of October 22, it can take the form of a severe cyclone.  

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra has said that the storm can also wreak havoc in the coastal areas. However, its exact information can be given only after a low-pressure area is developed. In view of the meteorological department's prediction, the Odisha government has cancelled the leave of employees from October 23 to 25. Apart from this, the government has issued an alert in coastal districts.  

The Meteorological Department has still predicted rain in many states. A yellow alert has been issued in some districts of 10 states including Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. This time the departure of the monsoon was late and now due to western disturbances, rain continues in many places. Pune in Maharashtra received heavy rainfall on Tuesday. At the same time, the Meteorological Department says that heavy rains may occur in Tamil Nadu and Kerala for the next three days.
